How I Started Using the Web

1996 was the year our household became connected to the internet and when I started venturing out onto the World Wide Web. When it came to internet access, AOL was the king of internet service providers. The connection was extremely slow compared to today’s speeds, but it was lightning fast to us. At the time, instant messaging and chatrooms were the most appealing to me. A few of my other friends also had AOL, so we would create chatrooms to talk about upcoming plans to hang out, play games, or sports. We would also instant message each other about school or whatever else was going on. I almost never ventured onto the broader web. Instead, I would click around AOL’s homepage to find content that was interesting.

Goals for CIS 195

My main goal for this class is to gain an understanding of HTML and CSS so that I can build on that knowledge to create increasingly complex websites. I’d like to create and publish websites as a hobby to start. When I get into a professional IT position, it will help round out my overall skillset.
